Getting Here
For centuries Moffat has been a hub for travellers crossing the Southern Uplands of Scotland making journeys from the South to the major conurbations of Scotland’s Central Belt, and all land routes have developed continuously reflecting advances in engineering and the movement of people. Today access to the town remains straightforward.

By Train
Despite an interesting railway history for Beattock and Moffat, our nearest station is now at Lockerbie. It is well served by direct trains from Glasgow and Edinburgh, Carlisle, Cumbria, the North-West, the Midlands and London. If continuing by public transport you need to catch the 380 bus from Lockerbie to Moffat (see above). Please note that there is not a bus stop outside the station (see the map for circled bus stop locations).

Facilities
Entry to Moffat Museum is Free. The Museum is run entirely by Volunteers – please feel free to ask them any questions you may have about Moffat Museum and facilities in the town.
We are constantly working to make the museum accessible to all, but at the moment some exhibits are only accessible by stairs to the first floor. The ground floor has full wheelchair access inside the building but there are steps to a few outdoor exhibits and the Merlin Exhibition. The Special Exhibitions each year are always on the ground floor.
We do not have a café, but there is a very good selection of cafés in Moffat High Street, and several hotels providing food and refreshments throughout the year. We do not have toilets for visitors, but there are public toilets available at Moffat Town Hall and at the main entrance to Station Park, both within 5 minutes walking distance.
