This image was taken as Sergeant Sloan (on the right) and PC James Fairweather (on the left) arrived in Manchester to give their evidence at the Trial of Rex v Ruxton in March 1936.
James Ralph Arnold Fairweather (k/a Ralph) was born in Dunblane in 1908. After a spell in the Scots Guards, Ralph joined Dumfriesshire Constabulary in 1931. He was moved to Moffat in 1934, having spent 3 years in Lockerbie. PC Fairweather was very involved in the investigations following the discovery of body parts at Gardenholm Linn.
Other than during World War 2, when recalled to 1st Battalion Scots Guards, Ralph Fairweather had a lengthy career with the Police and was stationed in a number of offices across the region.
He died in Lockerbie in 1980.
The Museum is grateful to Ralph Fairweather’s son, Ralph, for this information and for the photograph.
