2 Dalton Square, Lancaster

Dr. Ruxton’s lavishly furnished home and surgery sat across the elegant Square from Lancaster Police Station. This image shows the view from 2 Dalton Square.

Ruxton’s last day at his home was on 12th October 1935, he was taken into custody the following day.

The forensic specialists and Police spent weeks in the house, after Buck Ruxton’s arrest, searching for evidence- much of which Ruxton had tried to get rid of e.g. carpets and clothing. Parts of the house were dismantled and reconstructed at Glaister’s laboratory in Glasgow to enable more detailed work.

On 4th December there was intense public interest as the contents of the house were auctioned, just 3 months after the murders and 5 months before Ruxton’s execution.

It proved impossible to sell the property as a home; it is now used as Council Offices. The image below is 2 Dalton Square in 1935
